CHARLOTTE, N.C., Aug. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- SekChek(R) Information Protection Services (IPS), providers of automated computer security assessments, today announced that it is now offering Transport Layer Security (TLS) encryption to all its clients. TLS ensures privacy of email content by encrypting emails on a server-to-server (domain to domain) basis.
"TLS offers companies of all sizes the security of a private network, with the convenience and low cost of the Internet. The minimal setup cost, low maintenance effort and seamless operation provides all our clients with automated encryption, message privacy and data integrity that has historically been available only to the largest of corporations in their private networks," said Andrew Chodelski, vice president of global marketing for SekChek IPS. "TLS gives our clients and security auditing partners maximum assurance over our protection of their email communications and attachments."
SekChek supplies system security assessment services for IT departments, auditors, compliance and corporate-governance practices. SekChek safely extracts security control settings from an enterprise's host operating system, providing a complete review of security effectiveness compared with international "leading practices." It also benchmarks the results against a unique database of statistical averages, compiled over 10 years from sanitized computer reviews in 95 countries, across 22 industries. SekChek helps companies quickly determine how their security controls stack up against similar industry deployments, offering unique intelligence to ensure an organization's computer security is in line with policy and regulation.
For transmitting client scanned data, SekChek already employs industry standard encryption techniques and offers the Secure/Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (S/MIME) methodology, which is based on a Public Key Infrastructure (PKI). SekChek's implementation of PKI effectively secures data with three layers of encryption, including an outer layer that uses a 4096-bit public key combined with the industry standard RSA & 3DES encryption algorithms.
This new addition of TLS provides SekChek clients with added security on a mail server-to-mail server level, reinforcing the privacy of transferred data as well as email correspondence. "A TLS-configured email server means the entire email is encrypted during transmission, providing a fourth layer of data encryption. This provides a far greater level of data security than most industries -- even the most security conscious -- currently employ in their external communications."
TLS is supported by most operating systems and Web servers, including Windows, UNIX (all variants), Novell/Netware, IBM Systems, Apache (version 1.3 and later) and Netscape Enterprise Server.
