OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 01/16/13 --
When women and entrepreneurship are put together, the potential for great chance is infinite. The UN Women National Committee Canada extends its support to women's pursuit of better business opportunities, through the Cartier Women's Initiative Awards.
"Women represent a significant part of the labour force in Canada and are under recognized as great innovators. Women are catalysts of change; when they become empowered economically, it benefits our society as a whole. The UN Women National Committee Canada is dedicated to supporting women in business around the world. Earlier this year, I had the honour and privilege of attending the 2012 Cartier Women of Influence Award Ceremony in Deauville, France and was inspired by the incredible ingenuity and industriousness of the candidates representing five different continents. I encourage the many talented Canadian female business leaders, who are setting an example of successful women, to continue to inspire others by applying to the 2013 Cartier Women's Initiative Awards" says Almas Jiwani, President of UN Women National Committee Canada.
The objective of the Cartier Women's Initiative Awards is to identify, to encourage, and to accompany entrepreneurial women around the world. Fifteen entrepreneurs - three per continent - will be selected on the basis of their applications in the first round; five winners - one per continent - will then be nominated in the second round, after careful evaluation of their detailed business plans and verbal presentations. Between these two rounds, the candidates will be coached by McKinsey and INSEAD, and after the finals, the five winners will be offered additional coaching for a year on top of a $20 000 prize.
Since its creation, the Cartier Women's Initiative awards have helped support 40 female entrepreneurs in the development of their start-up businesses. This year's award ceremony is set to take place in October in Deauville, France. Cartier has been continually committed to supporting women in business.
UN Women National Committee Canada is pleased to be part of the community that supports Cartier's responsibility, generosity, and reciprocity towards women in the role they play in business and world development.
To apply for the 2013 Cartier Women's Initiative awards, fill out the application form at www.cartierwomensinitiative.com and submit a short business plan online in English before the application deadline of March 8th, 2012 at 10AM (CET).
