ATLANTA, Jan. 10, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Mary deFlaun, Ph.D., BCES, a principal environmental scientist based in Geosyntec's Princeton office, has been appointed to serve a three-year term on the Certification by Eminence Committee of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists (AAEES).

The 12 members of the committee administer the "Certification by Eminence" pathway for the three environmental accreditations bestowed by the AAEES – the Board Certified Environmental Engineer (BCEE), the Board Certified Environmental Engineering Member (BCEEM), and the Board Certified Environmental Scientist (BCES) designations. These identify and recognize the accomplishments of the nation's most eminent environmental engineers and environmental scientists. Dr. deFlaun is the first BCES to serve on the committee.

Typically, AAEES board certification requires a written examination, followed by an interview with a panel of peers to assess a professional's competency in the specific specialty selected by the candidate. Those persons receiving the credential by eminence are exempted from the oral and written examinations that are otherwise required to earn accreditation.

In November 2012, the AAEES Board of Trustees granted Dr. deFlaun her own BCES in the specialty practice of microbiology. She is part of the Inaugural Class of 2012 awarded a BCES by eminence, placing her among the top tier of environmental engineering and science experts in the United States.
